Masters rowing

Leichhardt is building its future through new programs to attract young athletes to the sport, particularly those in their final years of high school or recent school leavers. The masters group provides much of the support to help the club operate. Masters rowing starts at age 27 and competitors row within their own age categories (or at the average age of the crew).

Leichhardt is active in masters rowing and enjoys some success at state and national masters championships, and at international events (see below).

LRC at the 2010 nationals

The 2010 Australian Rowing Championships were at Champion Lakes, Western Australia 3-6 June.

The LRC masters contingent in total did extremely well. Everyone who raced won at least one medal, and it total LRC brought home 13 gold medals (10 silver, 9 bronze) to place the club third in the national tally, behind Melbourne Rowing Club and Banks Rowing Club. Well done to everyone.

Congratulations to LRC rowers in the NSW Masters teams
NSW again won the in Interstate 4x in 3.40.61, ahead of Western Australia and Victoria. The margins were 2.27 and 4.07 secs. crew (3.42.88), and Victoria (3.44.68), ahead of ACT and Queensland. The New South Wales crew again featured (for the second year) LRC rowers Angela Conry and Anne Parbury.

Rumour is that the Insterstate 8+ was the fastest and closest on record. Western Australia won in 3.30.7 secs, 0.04 seconds ahead of New South Wales with Queensland 0.24 secs behind in third. The seven LRC rowers in the8+ were Sandy Rourke, Deanna Fekete, Dianne Williams, Christina Bursill, Leslie Howatt, Virginia Van Ewyk and Anne Parbury.
